When you have new plants coming up !! โ๏ธ ๐ฟ ๐ I check always my new plants on pests, shortage of any kind, plantstress (like cold damage) first !! ๐ Let your new plants acclimate at least a few weeks !! ๐ Adapt them to more light (if your plants traveled far without any light) ๐ Remove toplayer of your substrate: eggs,fungus,rot can thrive there.โบ๏ธ ๐ No repotting/giving fertilizer for at least a few weeks. Smaller plants adapt faster. Then big bulky plants !! ๐ ask the seller. There is some discussion with some philo’s that have pink variegation,peach color by conditions: to close to growlamp can create more unnatural color on foilage. ๐ฟ We all know a leaf to close to a growlamp can have burnspots or leaves will be pale. So which conditions your beloved plant is growing will be a factor. But the most will be the plant genes/how steady a crossing is-variety !! ๐ฟ For example with these and variegated micans. You can get really pinkesh or white leaves even by light and with many other plants as well. Especially variegated plants. ๐ฟ But a apricot color can come up with a caramel marble. That looks like pink a bit. โบ๏ธ ๐ฟ You can see 3 full moon leaves still. But the new fresh leaf has some green speckles. So i am always gratefull. If there is a mixed color= more energy then a full moon leaf.โ๏ธ ๐ฟ Caramel marble/ring of fire are in my experience more sensitive about overwatering and draft. Variegated foilage goes further. Still so surprised !! ๐ ๐ฟ #alocasiamacrorrhizavariegata ๐ฟ Because it was first green on green variegation only. We all know #alocasia’s do something different: guttation (water drops on leaves,petioles goes down= need more water, etc..) ๐ฟ But did you know these plants does self regulation to !! ๐ฟ That means one new leaf comes up and old one goes down. Alsow if your Alocasia have less energy (they need a lot nutrition-fertilizer in growing season) ? ๐ฟ You will notice more leaves then one will drop !! ๐ฟ Not steady warmth and temperature. You could get the same thing. As long as your stem/corm is healthy. You can revive these plants !! Their still hope if you see a lot of leaf drops. โ๏ธโบ๏ธ ๐ฟ Very important to check your rootball. Getting thirsty already. When i see these !!๐๐ธ ๐ฟ Lovely #colocasiamojito plants. Propogated and chopped up again. These are my new motherplants. ๐ฟ Those speckles are the best. What about plantcare of this plantfamily: its very similar to a alocasia. They do self regulation (new leaf up= oldest leaf down). ๐ฟ You can devide them or take seeds from it. I hope to cross it with some other colocasia’s in the future. โ๏ธ ๐ฟ They are more sensitive on plantfoot rot/root rot. Then some alocasia’s. In my experience !! ๐ฟ So a good drained soilmix or other substrate is recommended. Alsow keep it light moist all the time. I grow them up on spaghnum moss. Give it a good organic fertilizer in growing season. Have a lovely #philodendronfriday all !! ๐ฟ Today my #philodendronluxurians decided to unfold a fresh leaf. Still in love with those lovely leaf veines. Such a nice contrast. ๐ฟ This botanical philo is a crawler. Not a climber. ๐ฟ It has the most silky leaves and feel very soft even. But like other philo types. It needs a humidity of 65 % and warmth. Like some other philo types (melano’s,verrucosum). They don’t like a completely dried up rootball. So keep your drained soilmixture light moist all the way. ๐ฟ The plant is getting to big for my growtent. So i need to choose. My self grown #syngonium tower on a mosspole has rooted in the cocosfiber a lot. I cut the longest stem off. And let it grow a new head shoot. ๐ฟ #syngoniumalbovariegata #syngoniumalbovariegatum ๐ฟ I cut of a few elastic wires that holds the nodes on there place a bit. There completely rooted in. So happy !! ๐ฟ If you have plants on a mosspole. Don’t forget them to turn it. So every stem/shoot can absorb energy threw their leaves. Especially in these darker days. ๐ฟ A lot of plants will lean or touch a window. With colder temperatures outdoor: the leaf can be damaged (cold damage) !! ๐ฟ So check your plants that are very close to a window often !! ๐ฟ I mentioned before that wounds take longer to dry out. Like if you cut a leaf or stem. Finally after 7 days its dry and closed the wound: cutted stem !! ๐ฟ Some houseplants are in dormant stage already. New growth spotted after acclimatisation and adapting to light conditions in the growtent. My #philodendronverrucosum (incensi) grows like a weed !! I’ve made it hanging and crawling on the floor. These can grow so big !! ๐ฟ Its growing to one of the growlamps. A lovely #marantakerchoveanavariegata !!๐ ๐ฟ Started with two tiny cuttings to this. #maranta’s you can use for a nice pot or hanging plant. You can propogate even rootshoots out the pottingsoil or at the plant itself: nodes (knop in dutch). ๐ฟ Most other #prayerplanttypes you can propogate only by rootshoots.๐ฑ ๐ฟ #maranta’s have the smallest leaves from all #prayerplant types either. So even a small corner with some filterd light ( out of sunlight) and humidity of 65 % or more are a perfect spot. They love it !! โ๏ธ ๐ฟ Like in a badroom/ kitchen they will grow better in general. ๐ฟ Like other #prayerplants. They don’t like a dried up rootball. It needs to be light moist always !! ๐ฟ All prayerplants form thicking at their roots. When they are mature. The plant will save extra water and nutrition there. So its perfectly normal. If you see these at the roots. ๐ฟ If you want to start with prayerplants. Small edged leaves are more easy. Then wide edges types: like orbifolia !! ๐ฟ So a #maranta is a good choice to start with.โบ๏ธ ๐ฟ I know the heather will be on soon. So keep these plants an a distance of your heather. Alsow get to you know your home- microclimate !! ๐ฟ Check for pests, rot, foilage: shortage of minerals/micro spores: shortage of iron= leaf veines are green. But green color of the leaf itself is pale !! ๐ฟ If you found pest. Treated first or use what vision you have: bio/natural predators/ neemoil etc.. ๐ฟ It all depends on which pest you have offcourse.โบ๏ธ ๐ฟ Let your new plant adapt/ acclimate to his new spot. So don’t repot it instantly !! ๐ฟ Repotting gives always a bit stress to your plant. So keep that in mind. ๐ฟ Take cuttings and add fertilizer (depends on your substrate you use) after your plant has adapted: 1-2 weeks or more !! ๐ฟ Ask the grower/seller/trader how and were the plant was growing ? ๐ฟ With growlamps or not ? for example/ greenhousecabinet/southside or northside of the house. Highly variegated zebrina !! ๐ ๐ฟ We all know variegated plants can absorb less energy threw their leaves in general ( less chlorophyl-photosynthesis) !! A completely green leaf grows faster. Roots are already at the bottom !! ๐ฟ #alocasiafrydekvariegata ๐ฟ Alocasia’s are a amazing plantfamily on their own: selfregulation and a lot of guttation on their leaves. It can give stains on real parquet. So keep that in mind. ๐ฟ They need a lot of nutrition to grow. So don’t forget to give organic fertilizer with these plants. ๐ฟ You can propogate #corms like this one or with older plants you can spot rootshoots as well. ๐ฟ They are sensitive for root rot. You have easier types and difficult types. A frydek or the green one: micholitziana are easier for care then a silver dragon for example. ๐ฟ Give lukewarm water or at least water on room temperature. To cold water they feel it fast. A little bit sunshine and plants that’s all i need !!๐ต ๐ฟ Some sunshine in these days are the best. Fall is getting closer already. ๐ฟ A few very old cacti in the collection. I’ve got these #opuntia’s more then 20 years ago. Made many cuttings of it. โบ๏ธ ๐ฟ You can see some new growth on some planted cacti discs and agave plants. All these pots were repotted last year. Let’s talk about #peperomia’s like this #peperomiaraindropvariegata !! ๐ฟ These lovely plant family are #succulents. But they can react very bad on dry air and to hot temperatures. A lot of leaf loss. Keep your rootball light moist always. Its a bit different in care then a other succulents. ๐ฟ This peperomia i let it be in very warm conditions for a month while ago. Leaves were falling off fast. One of my biggest verrucosum’s in the house !! ๐ ๐ฟ #philodendronverrucosum (incensi) ๐ฟ Its crawling on the floor even.โบ๏ธ ๐ฟ Verrucosum and some other more botanical philo types are a bit different. Take look to the petioles: they have tiny hairs everywhere. A reddish color at the back and amazing leaf veines. ๐ฟ I keep the rootball light moist always. They are more sensitive for to dry conditions. Like many other botanical types: like melanochrysum,mamei,plowmanii,gloriosum, etc.. ๐ฟ A humidity 65 % is recommended and you can keep these more in filtered light conditions. ๐ฟ Propogating some cuttings of verrucosum’s can be trickier. Because they loosen there leaves rapidly i noticed. ๐ฟ That’s why i keep my cuttings first on water a few days. After cutting it off. After some lovely plantchats in early july. Some plantaddicts were wondering: if my #alocasia don’t have any leaves anymore. Can i still save it ? ๐ฟ #alocasiamicholitziana ๐ฟ It depends if you have rot or fungus at roots/plantfoot or at the stem itself. On what stage even !! ๐ฟ Rot= remove it and check your rootball first. Rot can go fast if the conditions are good for it. Moist or even very wet. Water that not drain away is a common thing. ๐ฟ You can still save a lot of #corms to. propogate these on moss at a breeding tray. ๐ฟ If your stems are still good. Your plant is certainly not dead yet. They can come back. Even from to dry/to wet conditions. ๐ฟ #alocasia’s need a lot energy. I give even at this time more water and organic organic fertilizer to all of mine. A good drained soilmix is recommended. ๐ฟ This motherplant i let it dry out completely for two weeks. First off all let your hydromarbles soak for a bit. There ready when you don’t see any bubbles ( oxygen) escaping on the water surface. Some leca marbles will float on the surface even sometimes. The hydro marbles are saturated with water when there sinking to the bottom. So they stay longer moist for your future roots. ๐ฟ When your using the leca marbles in a jar. ๐ฟ Add water a bit at the bottom. Wait 1 hour and poor it out. You can use it with selfwatering pots. I use it even without a reservoir. Just in jars.โบ๏ธ ๐ฟ At least half from my jars need to be moist at all times. Remember that small and a bit damaged looking #anthurium ? ๐ฟ Now it looks like this. Just a perfect new leaf is emerged with that lovely foliage.โบ๏ธ ๐ฟ Anthurium’s like a more warmer and higher humidity climate !! #monsteravariegata squad !! โ๏ธ ๐ฟ On this lovely and sunny #monsteramonday. It was time to bring out some #monsteravariegata cuttings. I’ve had more then 15 cuttings so far. From my biggest plant. These four have already a very nice new shoot with some leaves !! ๐ฟ I lost not one on rot so far. Its all about balance if you propogate or grow plants on water only.๐ฑ ๐ฟ I have a new favorite one. Only a green spot at the end of the leaf so beautiful.โบ๏ธ ๐ฟ A few of them are ready for a switch to another substrate or soilmix. Check out those roots. ๐ฟ Tip: if you are struggling with growing/propogating plants with internodes. First #echinopsissubdenudata is blooming !! ๐ ๐ธ ๐ฟ These flowers have a great flowerperfume. In comparison to my stapelia’s.๐ ๐ฟ #echinopsis cacti types have something typical. Huge flowers so they can be seen by pollinators. So even a small cactus can produce seeds after pollinators visited them. ๐ฟ They grow mostly in South America in rocky places. ๐ฟ I gave these two some extra seaweed chalk and repotted them in early spring. Some cacti,succulents even rockplants need this to flowering. It changes the acid rate of your soil mix and i mixed a lot of grit in it to. More minerals and microspores. ๐ฟ Its a more globulair cactus (bolcactus in dutch) form always with these. They look so catchy. ๐ฟ I really love plants that are tiny and can bring huge flowers. The flowers bloom 2 to 4 days max !! So watch them. Star fish flower/ #stapeliahirsuta is just amazing and so beautiful !!Untill you smell near it. They come from south africa: were they grow on soil with rocks in it !! Like many other succulents a fertilizer with a lot of minerals is recommended. ๐ฟ They can form big pollen all together near the soil !! I do have about 10 different types of these. So luckely they don’t bloom all at once.๐๐ ๐ฟ The smell is like smelly feed or something is rotting nearby.. ๐ฟ But those unique flowers make it so much better. I love them !! โบ๏ธ ๐ฟ The odor from the flower will reach his peak after 24/48 hours !! There unique hairs and texture on the flower surface are needed to attract pollinators: flies !! ๐ฟ Its not a cactus. But a succulent !! they have very tiny leaves. They feel so fluffy even. So if you want a cactus looking plant. That is thorn free.
